Thelonious Monk was an American jazz pianist and composer born in Rocky Mount, NC. Monk was renowned for his distinctive styles in suits, hats and sunglasses, as well as his unorthodox approach to the piano. Monk was the second most recorded jazz composer next to Duke Ellington, and one of only five jazz musicians to ever be featured in Time magazine. The Twin Counties Young Professional group and the Rocky Mount/Edgecombe Community Development Corporation have an eventful two days planned to celebrate this legend.
