Hoppin’ John Old-Time & Bluegrass Fiddlers’ Convention is three-day event for musicians, dancers and music-lovers on a beautiful 72-acre site in the heart of Chatham County. Hoppin’ John combines the elements and musical contests of a traditional fiddlers’ convention with its own unique educational and family programming. The event offers contests in old-time and bluegrass band and instruments, square dances, workshops, musician showcases and concerts, along with family activities and a hoppin’ john cook-off. Being the only event of this nature in the Piedmont, Hoppin’ John preserves the playing styles and traditional music of our immediate region — keeping it alive and teaching it to the next generation. Statewide Arts Celebration Events
In all corners of our state, North Carolinians engage in a wide variety of arts experiences – from performances in big concert halls to artist residencies in schools. During our anniversary season, we are shining a spotlight on these creative moments. Events and programs in all 100 counties have been dedicated to the North Carolina Arts Council’s 50th. This is our Statewide Arts Celebration.
